Passport

In regards to my landlord situation.... SUCCESS!

The weather has been completely different than what friends and family are currently experiencing on the west coast. Rain has been in our forecast for a few days and it looks like there is no end in sight! Walking in the rain with cold feet has reminded me that I lack proper footwear to survive here. My sandals, my rodents and even my pumas are absolutely useless, especially in the rain. I have attempted to search for some cute but functional boots but I feel clueless as to what I should get and where. Suggestions are more than welcome for those who have experience in boot-buying.

Justin may be attending a conference in China in October. He finally decided it was time to get his (currently non-existing) passport in order. We made our way to the post office with forms and his birth certificate in hand only to find out that the post office required a copy of his drivers license. Justin managed to convince a lady at some insurance company to xerox his drivers license and we stood back in line. We then found out that they also needed the back side of his license copied. In complete annoyance, I almost asked where they have this information listed but we left and walked a few blocks and found a copy machine. The out-dated machine decided to make things difficult by printing on a larger than normal piece of paper. Of course, the post office specified an 8 1/2 x 11. We walked into a Hallmark store and asked to borrow scissors. Mission accomplished, kind of.

Once we returned to the post office, the lady took his picture and began sorting through his paperwork. The minute Justin pulled out his birth certificate, the lady's expression dropped as she told us his birth certificate was not in acceptable condition. Give us a break lady! Justin tried explaining that this was in fact his original birth certificate, making it twenty-seven years old. She was unsympathetic and mumbled something about a number we had to call in California. She asked to see Justin's drivers license again and it was then that we realized he had left his license two blocks away on the copier. Luckily, it was there when he returned but we left the post office very disappointed. Hopefully we can get Justin's passport squared away soon. On a side note, why does every postal worker hate his/her life? And why of all places do we have to go to the post office to apply for a passport? I look forward to one day having a pleasant experience at the post office.

you could go to other places besides a post office hahah. what a sucky experience!

and my birth certificate has been rejected before because it is in "unacceptable condition".. what do they freaking expect!? it's over 2 decades old and i'm pretty sure birth certificates from the 80s were like printed on like flimsy fax paper. WEAK.

I once had a friend who was a postal worker. He said that they sat around at lunch and discussed if they were going to "go postal" how they would do it.

Dave told me that when he took Russell to Japan his birth certificate was also inadequate. They now make them full sheets like Ethan's.
Also let Justin know Uncle Dave wants to talk to him before he goes for some tips.
